1983 Toyota Tercel a Hot Commodity – Recognize It?

“Breaking Bad” character Jesse Pinkman’s 1983 Toyota Tercel is up for grabs after filming on the final season wraps. Yo, Breaking Bad fans – Need a new ride? Jesse Pinkman can hook you up. Check it… On a visit to any given used car dealership, you’d likely pass on the 1983 Toyota Tercel with the faded red paint job and no hubcaps. But this particular 30-year-old junker has an intangible value as the sometimes-star of the AMC hit TV show – the only show to ever make us root for the local meth dealer. In reality, the ride belongs to Mike Faris Auto Wholesale in Albuquerque, New Mexico. But on TV, it belongs to Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), high school dropout-turned-meth dealing partner of Walter White aka “Heisenberg,” who just happens to be his former chemistry teacher. But for a few thousand bucks and a little patience, it could be yours. The Tercel actually serves as an extra, should the main Tercel suffer an unfortunate and untimely end on set. But even as...

Meet E3 Spark Plugs Tier 2 Winner Jacob Putman

Jacob “Camokid” Putman is burning up the tracks. making a name for himself at just six years old. Since the ripe old age of four, Jacob “Camokid” Putman has been chasing a very grownup dream, leaving competitors with more age and experience in the dust. Now, at 7 years old, he’s back for his second year of Team E3 Racing sponsorship and ever closer to a future pro racing career. The Kid Cart champ who turns seven next month made his racing debut in October of 2010 at just four years old at Old Dominion Speedway (ODS) in Manassas, VA. With a solid fourth-place finish, he convinced his parents, competitors and track officials that he was a natural behind the wheel. He started the next season in Kid Kart 1, but so put his competitors to shame that officials recommended his parents move him up to Kid Kart 2. Head-to-head against older boys with at least two years of experience, he again proved his mettle on the track, finishing the season second in points at King George ...

Meet Team E3 Racing Tier 1 Winner Shea Holbrook

Meet Team E3 Racing Tier 1 Winner Shea Holbrook

Team E3 Racing winner Shea Holbrook hit the Richard Petty Driving Experience at age 16 and never looked back. Shea Holbrook recently experienced the “best five laps of my life,” she says. While walking the paddocks at the Homestead-Miami International Speedway during a Formula and Automobile Racing Association event, she spotted her dream car – an Audi Sport Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) racecar. As luck would have it, she knew the team and car owners, and thus scored the chance to take it out on the tracks for a few laps. “The sensation of driving the ‘Batmobile’ came over me because everything is pushed back a few feet,” Holbrook writes in her racing website blog. “I’ve never felt more comfortable in a racecar than driving this one. Cool, calm and collected I roll out of the pits. Getting a feel for the car, aggressively grabbing the upshifts with my foot to the floor and then punching the downshifts as fire lights under my butt (exhaust comes out the ...

E3 Spark Plugs is a proud sponsor of the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series. For racing fans, the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series is the place to go to witness these violent, air-splitting machines and now that more than 900 teams are competing for one national championship, you have even more opportunities to catch the action. Meet Team E3 Racing Tier 2 Winner Alex Prunty

Meet Team E3 Racing Tier 2 Winner Alex Prunty

Alex Prunty is a third-generation stock car racer and second-year Team E3 Racing winner. He’s a third-generation racer back for his second year as part of Team E3 Racing. Twenty-year-old Alex Prunty clearly has racing in his blood, as the seventh member of his family to take the wheel on the competitive tracks. The Prunty family’s racing dynasty started with Grandfather Doug Prunty, who ran his one and only season in 1961. All five sons followed and Alex hit the tracks in 2009, racing a donated 1990 Nissan Stanza XE-turned-racecar. Turns out a host of engine and electrical issues were no match for the Prunty men’s mechanical prowess or Alex’s dogged determination. He landed his first feature win in just his sixth race at Wisconsin’s Slinger Super Speedway. The very next year, Prunty would do his family proud, taking the Slinger Super Speedway Slinger Bees Track Championship – the family’s 11th. Next, Prunty raced the Late Model division thanks to another donate...

Meet Team E3 Racing Tier 1 Winner Brandon Williams

Meet Team E3 Racing Tier 1 Winner Brandon Williams

Team E3 Racing winner Brandon Williams runs the popular DirtXtra online magazine. Brandon Williams followed up his 2010 rookie year in unexpected fashion – by taking his sophomore year off. But with good reason – the busy new dad who operates a crane for U.S. Steel by day and spends his nights and weekends at the dirt tracks wanted to be around for his baby boy, Blake. Having landed the 11th spot ranking in the Kankakee County Speedway Points  and 23rd in the I-MOD Association series piloting an I-MOD in his first year as a professional dirt track racer, he came back strong in 2012, landing respectable ninth and 12th places in two races. Team E3 Racing winner Brandon Williams For the 2013 season, he’s gunning for the UMP  (United Midwestern Promoters) National Championship title in the Pro Late Model class, piloting a recently built UMP Pro Late Model MasterSbilt Chassis with a 604 GM Crate Engine. Meet Team E3 Racing Tier 2 Winner Cody Perry

Meet Team E3 Racing Tier 2 Winner Cody Perry

Team E3 Racing winner Cody Perry was a 2009 Rookie of the Year. Cody Perry has a bright future in racing – and perhaps the best manicured lawn in the neighborhood. “This may sound crazy,” says the latest Team E3 Racing winner. “But I always mow the grass right before we load everything up. It helps me concentrate, brings me good luck.” Perry’s strange pre-race regimen apparently is paying off. The high school senior from North Vernon, Indiana first hit the tracks in 2008 and quickly let it be known that he was the one to beat. Among his accomplishments: 3rd in Points at Twin Cities Raceway Park in the Hornet Division in 2009 Rookie of the Year at Twin Cities Raceway Park in the Hornet Division in 2009 5th in Points at Twin Cities Raceway Park in the Hornet Division in 2010 Twin Cities Raceway Park Hornet Track Champion in 2011 with 12 heat wins and three feature wins 2nd in Points at Lawrenceburg Speedway in the Hornet Division in 2012 Perry became inter...

Girl Power Hits the NASCAR Pits -E3 Spark Plugs Digs Christmas Abbott

Girl Power Hits the NASCAR Pits -E3 Spark Plugs Digs Christmas Abbott

Christmas Abbott is busting through the gender barriers in professional racing, making history as the first NASCAR pit crew member. NASCAR pit crew members are a rare breed. They’ve got to be seriously strong, crazy fast, precision-minded and able to endure long hours in hot, chaotic conditions. And until now, they were all guys. Enter Christmas Abbott, a petite but powerful crossfit champion and former Olympic weightlifting trainer who recently became the first female to dare to brave the crew pit. Several celebrated women have slipped behind the wheel to compete on the tracks – most notably Danica Patrick, who earlier this month became the first woman ever to claim the Spring Cup pole at the Daytona 500. But Abbott, a 5’3″, 115-pound blonde beauty, is the first to join a NASCAR pit crew. Defying the odds – and the whispered bets that she won’t make it a full season – Abbott inked a deal to serve on the NASCAR crew pit, changing tires for driver Jennifer Jo Cobb...

132 Cars Die Hard in New Bruce Willis Flick’s 11 Million Chase Scene

132 Cars Die Hard in New Bruce Willis Flick’s 11 Million Chase Scene

A shot from the $11 million car chase scene in “A Good Day to Die Hard.” Sometime last year, producers thought it a good day to drop $11 million and let 132 rides die hard – literally. And it was all for just one scene in actor Bruce Willis’ A Good Day to Die Hard, the latest in Hollywood’s Die Hard franchise. In this latest installment, filmed in Budapest, Hungary on a $92 million budget, Willis’ iconic John McClane character jets off to Mother Russia looking for his wayward son, Jack, whom John believes is up to no good. Turns out, Jack is a good guy after all. Unbeknownst to dear ol’ dad, Jack is actually a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. With the Russian underworld in hot pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two hard-headed McClanes discover that their opposing methods just might make them unstoppable heroes. But all that movie machismo won’t help the 132 cars that met their metal-crunching fate on the set of a si...

French Stunt Driver Guerlain Chicherit Lands Mini Back Flip

French Stunt Driver Guerlain Chicherit Lands Mini Back Flip

Guerlain Chicherit made history on Sunday, becoming the first to successfully land a back flip in a car. Last month, E3 Spark Plugs brought you the story of French stunt driver Guerlain Chicherit’s apparent history-making back flip in a modified Mini Countryman on New Year’s Day. Video posted on his Facebook page teased the feat, but stopped just short of showing the landing and touted a public attempt slated for February 17. Those waiting with bated breath for Chicherit’s second try at an unassisted mid-air backflip in a car were rewarded handsomely this weekend when the four-time free skiing world champion and the 2009 Rally Raid World champ successfully delivered. With the snowy reaches of the Tignes, France mountains as a backdrop, Chicherit gunned it up a static ramp and launched his Mini Countryman at just the right speed, allowing him to soar into the air and rotate his vehicle a full 360-degrees before landing on a bank of snow. “I did it !!!!!!! ))),” Chic...

E3 Spark Plugs Congratulate Danica Patrick for History-Making Daytona 500 Pole Win

Danica Patrick made history this weekend, becoming the first woman ever to win the pole position at the Daytona 500. E3 Spark Plugs Wants to Know – Would You Drive the Tiny P45?

E3 Spark Plugs Wants to Know – Would You Drive the Tiny P45?

BBC’s “Top Gear” host Jeremy Clarkson recently unveiled the Peel P45, touted as the world’s smallest car. Would you drive it? Once upon a time, a single computer took up the space of a huge room. Now, we can hold them in our hands. The first cell phones were a bit like holding shoe boxes to our gourds, but today’s fit in our pockets.  And those unwieldy 8-track cassette players have given way to tiny MP3 players. That’s the way it goes with so many of the products that we use every day. So why wouldn’t the automobile also experience a devolution of sorts? Enter Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson and his P45. Touted as the world’s smallest car (actually, the Peel P50 lays claim to being the world’s smallest street-legal production car, but we digress), the P45 sports a look described as resembling “a gas-powered Hoveround topped by lights, mirrors and a modern version of the armor worn by the Knights Who Say Ni.” And it just might take a Monty Python fan to tr...
