E3 Spark Plugs Wants to Know – Which Dodge Dart do you Dig?

E3 Spark Plugs Wants to Know – Which Dodge Dart do you Dig?

Sneak peek of the 2013 Dodge Dart. The last time you could buy a brand new Dodge Dart was the same year moviegoers were lining up for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, newshounds were following the Watergate trials, Peter Gabriel was still the Genesis frontman and Bob Chandler was tooling away in his garage, creating the first Monster Truck Bigfoot. Until now, that is. Yep – the Dodge Dart is back. But this ain’t your granny’s Slant-Six lead sled. Next year, Dodge will revive the Dart name for its newest small car, replacing the ailing Caliber. It’s designed is based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and will hit the streets with a choice of three engines: the Tigershark 16-valve 2.0-liter, a 16-valve 1.4-liter MultiAir® Intercooled Turbo, and a new Tigershark 16-valve 2.4-liter MultiAir® four-cylinder engine. Dodge marketers are billing the 2013 Dart as a four-door sedan that “redefines performance” and “brings fun back to driving” in the compact car segment. 1960...

E3 Spark Plugs Film Pick: Revenge of the Electric Car

E3 Spark Plugs Film Pick: Revenge of the Electric Car

"Revenge of the Electric Car" offers an unprecedented look into electric car research and development programs of America's automakers. Documentary film director Chris Paine’s follow up to the controversial 2006 Who Killed the Electric Car is proving just as thought-provoking and entertaining as his first cinematic attempt to out automakers he believes are intentionally hindering development of electric cars with mass-market appeal. E3 Spark Plugs finds Revenge of the Electric Car a fascinating look into the inner workings of automakers’ electric car research and development programs and one eccentric drivers’ dogged determination to defy the automotive powers-that-be. In Who Killed the Electric Car, Paine sought to educate the masses about the electric car’s place in history and expose the destruction in the early 2000s of thousands of new electric cars – by the same car companies that made them. The film took to task officials who squelched the Zero Emission Vehicl...

E3 Spark Plugs’ Thanksgiving Road Trip Tips

Headed out of town for Thanksgiving? E3 Spark Plugs offers family road trip tips. If over the hills and through the woods to Grandmother’s house you go this Thanksgiving, be sure your ride is ready. E3 Spark Plugs offers a few road trip tips to help make your holiday a happy one – as long as you’re in the car, that is. You’re on your own with the in-laws and crazy Uncle Louie. Go with the flow: Check, change and/or top off all your car’s fluids including the oil, coolant, brake and transmission fluid. It’s a good idea to switch out for a high-quality new oil filter too, particularly if you’re traveling a long distance. Hit the brakes: The Thanksgiving holiday is the busiest time of the year on the roadways. Consider that it’s also a big NFL football day and that many post-game celebrants might be less than sober by the time they get back behind the wheel to head home. So being able to brake quickly and safely is critical. E3 Spark Plugs recommends getting a ...

Blazusiak Sweeps EnduroCross, Robert Takes E3 Spark Plugs Junior Championship

Taddy Blazusiak sweeps the final two events of the GEICO AMA EnduroCross Championships for a perfect season. Phot by Drew Ruiz via EnduroCross. The final rounds of the 2011 GEICO AMA EnduroCross series might as well have been dubbed the “Taddy Blazusiak Show.” The Polish phenom won both main events, making it a perfect season. But Taylor Robert came with his A-game as well, earning his first ever EnduroCross podium and claiming the E3 Spark Plugs Junior Championship for top drivers under age 21. In the afternoon Hot Laps, it looked like Blazusiak had some real competition. Beta’s Cody Webb claimed the fastest lap time in the battle for heat race gate picks. Blazusiak settled for second, followed by KTM teammate Mike Brown, Husqvarna’s Cory Graffunder and Monster Kawasaki’s Justin Soule. Blazusiak, Brown and Webb proved strong enough in the Hot Laps to earn a direct shot to the double main events. In the first main event, Blazusiak shot to the front right away, winni...

E3 Spark Plugs Recommends “Art Car: The Movie”

E3 Spark Plugs Recommends “Art Car: The Movie”

Art Car: The Movie follows several artists as they prepare for the 2010 Houston Art Car Parade. With 300 entrants and more than 300,000 spectators, the Houston Art Car Parade is the biggest of its kind worldwide. And if you’ve never had the chance to experience it, E3 Spark Plugs highly recommends Art Car: The Movie, an entertaining and inspiring telling of the classic American story of the quintessential form of public art. Premiering at the Cinema Arts Festival in Houston last night, Art Car follows a cadre of artists as they prepare for the 2010 Houston Art Car Parade. Two artists getting lots of screen time are Rebecca Bass, a teacher at an underprivileged high school struggling with her art class to complete what will be her 20th, and possibly last, art car; and Mark “Scrapdaddy” Bradford, a full-time artist grinding to make ends meet while conceptualizing his ultimate artistic dream. Both are renowned Houston artists and Art Car Parade veterans with one shared goal...

E3 75 Starts Out Like a Demolition Derby, Austin Barnes

E3 75 Starts Out Like a Demolition Derby, Austin Barnes

16-year-old Austin Barnes is the latest E3 75 winner. This past weekend’s E3 75 got off to a pretty rough start with the first of four yellow flags falling even before the entire field of 26 starters could get past the starting line. But once the drivers got into the groove, it proved to be a spectacular race. Part of the Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series presented by Rockstar Energy Drink, the E3 75 boasted a field of the best open wheel driving talent from throughout the western states area and a $3,000 winning purse. The pre-race favorite was 16-year-old Escondido, Californian Austin Barnes, who started the day by setting a new track qualifying record of 15.215 seconds. Barnes led most of the race, but nearly lost it to Aaron McMorran, who, in a last-minute deal, climbed into the driver’s seat of the #1H modified normally driven in the series by Thomas Pfundstein. McMorran clearly had winning on his mind and Barnes’ taillights in his sight. He drove a hard-charged fig...

Take a look at the Pistons N Pipes website if you’re seriously interested. If this becomes your next vintage ride, be sure to post pics on the E3 Facebook fan page. A Century of Chevys – That’s a Whole Lot of Spark Plugs!

A Century of Chevys – That’s a Whole Lot of Spark Plugs!

Chevrolet celebrates 100 years this month. E3 Spark Plugs congratulates Chevrolet on its centennial. Founded in 1911 by race car driver and automotive engineer Louis Chevrolet and ousted General Motors founder William C. Durant, the automaker celebrates 100 years this month. And as proud owners over the decades will tell you, “Chevy runs deep.” The first Chevy, a Classic Six built by Louis Chevrolet, rolled onto the streets of Detroit in 1912. Its engine was a large, liquid-cooled, 299-cubic-inch, six-cylinder cast-iron block with a T-head configuration. It produced 40 horsepower and could go 65 miles an hour – an impressive speed for street-legal cars at the time. Chevy quickly became known as the automaker that brought luxury features to the not-necessarily-wealthy masses. Its vehicles offered technology and features typically reserved for pricier cars and trucks. These included electric starters and electric headlamps during a time when they were rarities even among t...

Carl Renezeder Locks Up Season’s 1st Championship, Huseman Trucks Make Last Laps

Carl Renezeder Locks Up Season’s 1st Championship, Huseman Trucks Make Last Laps

Carl Renezeder clinches the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series Pro 4 championship title. Rounds 13 and 14 of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series presented by GEICO and sponsored in part by E3 Spark Plugs proved a beautiful but bittersweet time for racers and fans. We celebrated as one favorite competitor locked down the season’s first championship title and said a formal good-bye to two others. Saturday’s round was the first since the death of 2010 Pro 4 Champion Rick Huseman, his brother Jeff and friend Dan Hicks, all killed in a plane crash near Barstow, CA last month. Tributes to the Huseman brothers could be seen everywhere. Pro 2 competitor Robby Woods’ truck featured a special green paint scheme with Rick Huseman’s name and number. Junior 2 Kart racer Shelby Anderson had her kart painted with the livery that Huseman ran and invited other racers to pen a special message on it. In fact, most ever vehicle and driver suit bore some sort of tribute to the Huseman broth...

Dan Wheldon Honored with Danica Patrick Tribute Car, Celebrity Auction

Dan Wheldon Honored with Danica Patrick Tribute Car, Celebrity Auction

A celebrity auction hosted on eBay is raising money to benefit late IndyCar racer Dan Wheldon's two young sons. Danica Patrick’s ride in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race will honor the late Dan Wheldon, who was killed in an IndyCar crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last month. And a celebrity auction on Ebay is racking up tens of thousands of dollars to benefit Wheldon’s children. Patrick’s car will feature Wheldon’s famous Lionheart logo on the hood and promote the racer’s memorial website. In place of her famous American flag-themed helmet, Patrick will wear a special tribute helmet that will be auctioned off. At the time of his death, Wheldon was slated to replace Patrick at Andretti Autosport in 2012, as Patrick begins her fulltime NASCAR career. The auction benefiting the trust set up for Wheldon’s two-year-old son Sebastian and infant son Oliver began with a simple, loving gesture by fellow IndyCar racer Graham Rahal. Almost immediately after Rahal...

Halloween for the Car Buff – Great Haunted Car Flicks

Halloween for the Car Buff – Great Haunted Car Flicks

Haunted houses have nothing on haunted cars - especially Stephen King's "Christine." Halloween is all about haunted houses. But houses can’t chase you down the highway, through canyons, up dark alleys or right into your own living room. Nope – even the spookiest of haunted houses got nothin’ on haunted cars. In celebration of Halloween, E3 Spark Plugs lists three great creepy car movies. The Car, 1977: A black Lincoln Continental with no license plate, no door handles and no driver terrorizes a small Southwest town, starting with a series of apparent hit-and-run murders. In one pivotal scene, the car chases a crowd of students and teachers into a cemetery, but won’t enter it. James Brolin stars as a police chief bent on destroying the car after it launches into the window his girlfriend’s living room, apparently out of revenge for taunting the car at the cemetery’s gate. The final scenes feature a fiery canyon blast from which a smoky, demonic figure rises from t...

The Rum Diary Rolls onto the Big Screen with Some Very Cool Rides

The Rum Diary Rolls onto the Big Screen with Some Very Cool Rides

Johnny Depp and Aaron Eckhart. along with a few great vintage rides, star in the film adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's "The Rum Diary." This late 1950s Austin Healy just might be our favorite. After years of will-it or won’t-it-get-made speculation, the Johnny Depp-fronted adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s The Rum Diary finally hits theater screens nationwide Friday. We here at E3 Spark Plugs have been waiting with bated breath for this one. Not just for the crazed Gonzo brand of entertainment. Not just because Amber Heard is a stone cold hottie. Not just because any movie with a line like “We’ll nail this bastard to his own front door” has to be a good one. But for the parade of sweet (and just plain funny) vintage rides. The Rum Diary is the story of Paul Kemp (played by Depp in a young Thompson-esque way), a divorced, anti-authoritarian boozehound of a journalist who jettisons the madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America f...

Blazusiak, Robert Hold On to EnduroCross, E3 Spark Plugs Jr. Championship Winning Streaks

Taddy Blazusiak lands his sixth win this season in the GEICO AMA EndroCross Series main event in Boise, Idaho this weekend. Photo via www.endurocross.com. Taddy Blazusiak remains the man to beat in the 2011 EnduroCross season. Before a packed crowd at the Idaho Center in Boise Saturday, he took his sixth win of the season in the GEICO AMA EnduroCross Series presented by Lucas Oil. And young Taylor Robert continues his lead of the E3 Spark Plugs Jr. Championship within a Championship. Blazusiak started the race with a bang, securing the lead out of the first turn and launching completely over the first pool on the first lap. Mike Brown trailed closely behind, knowing he had to finish third or better to have any chance at nabbing the championship from Blazusiak. He temporarily lost his second place position to Justin Soule, who passed him in the rock section – a tough section for even the toughest competitors. But Brown won it back when Soule and Cody Webb collided in the pond...

E3 Spark Plugs Congratulates Ryan Villopoto for his Historic Million-Dollar Win

Ryan Villopoto made history winning the inaugural Monster Energy Cup and becoming the first off-road mortorcycle racer to take home a $1 million prize. When Ryan Villopoto crossed the finish line in the inaugural Monster Energy Cup he made history in more ways than one. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider swept all three main events and became the first in off-road motorcycle racing history to take home a $1 million prize. “It’s pretty unreal,” Villopoto said after the historic win. Villopoto started both the first and second main events by taking the holeshot and remained in the lead until crossing the finish line. Suzuki’s Mike Alessi claimed the holeshot in the third and final main event, but Villopoto and Ryan Dungey were hot on his trail. It didn’t take long for Villopoto to take the lead. He passed Alessi in the opening lap. Alessi and Dungey traded positions on lap 2 before both Dungey and Brett Metcalfe passed Alessi. But neither was able to catch up to Villop...

Off-road racing champion Rick Huseman and brother Jeff were among three people killed in a California plane crash Sunday, Oct. 16. The Beechcraft Bonanza aircraft had been traveling from North Las Vegas to Corona when it crashed about five miles from the Barstow-Doggett airport Sunday afternoon, officials said. The news comes on the heels of a horrific 15-car wreck that claimed the life of IndyCar champion Dan Wheldon, who left behind a wife and two young sons. E3 Spark Plugs Mourns Loss of IndyCar Champion Dan Wheldon

IndyCar racer Dan Wheldon was killed in a horrific accident at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sunday. Photo via www.DanWheldon.com and GP Sports Managment. E3 Spark Plugs joins the entire racing community in mourning the loss of Indianapolis 500 champion Dan Wheldon, who was killed Sunday in a violent 15-car crash at the Izod IndyCar World Championships finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Wheldon was racing as part of a promotion that would have landed a $5 million prize, to be split with a sweepstakes winner, for a series non-regular who won the race. Starting at the back of the 34-car field, Wheldon had worked his way to up some 10 spots by the 12th lap of the 200-lap race when two cars touched in front of him. That touch set of a disastrous chain reaction that would claim 15 cars. Wheldon was unable to slow down before impact. His car launched over the back of another car, turned in midair and slammed into the catch fence. Rescue workers responded quickly and Wheldon was airl...
