Original Batmobile Headed to Lego Land - Maybe

Multiple movies, TV shows, comic books and storybooks have been playfully immortalized in Lego sets, created for kids, but often hoarded by moms nostalgic dads and moms, too. Such will most certainly be the case if one online crusader gets his way.

Posting on the Lego Ideas website, a guy (or gal, who knows?) who goes by "B. Rick" is pushing the toymaker to offer a set that includes features from the original 1966 Batman TV series, including the iconic Batmobile by late car customizer George Barris. The proposed Lego Batmobile car, which began life in the TV world as a 1955 Lincoln Futura before undergoing a massive transformation, includes many of the same features you'll remember coveting as a kid, including the atomic turbine engine, Bat radar, rocket launchers, Bat-chutes, the Caped Crusaders' ultimately prophetic mobile crime computer and, of course, the Bat-phone. The set also includes Gotham scenery for original Batman and Robin figures.

The Lego Ideas site essentially is a marketing research platform wherein visitors can vote for the proposed sets they'd most like to see made and marketed commercially as new Lego sets. Once a proposed set hits 10,000 votes, it advances to the next stage - review by company designers. A panel of Lego designers who somehow landed what must be one of the coolest jobs on the planet evaluates projects that have reached the review stage, grading them on factors such as originality and ease of production. With enough votes and final approval, the '66 Batmobile Lego set could become a reality in time for the 50th anniversary of the iconic TV show.

Which car-centered TV show, movie, comic book or storybook set would you love to see become part of the Lego universe? Post your ideas on the E3 Spark Plugs Facebook Fan Page.
