E3 Spark Plugs Highlights the Players in Pro Mod: Mike Janis
Nashville, TN, (May 15, 2018)…One of today’s most exciting classes in NHRA drag racing has become the Pro Mod series that is now in its first season, sponsored by E3 Spark Plugs. The 2018 E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service is the only one that allows multiple makes of cars, builders and engines to compete on a level playing field. This combination is now drawing ever increasing throngs of fans to each city that Pro Mod races at NHRA. The 2018 season is shaping up again as one packed with thrills as barely hundredths-of-a-second divides the number 1 with the 16th qualifier, from entries topping 30 cars per event.
One of the competing racers is Mike Janis, from Elma, NY. Mike started racing for the first time 40+ years ago. His dad was racing back in the day and it all started with the family business, JAN-CEN Racing Engines, back in 1958. Janis was one of the original guys in the class, and racing Pro Mod since its inception back in the 90s. Janice currently pilots a supercharged 69’ Pro Mod Camaro. Crew Chief, Mike Janis Jr. says that helping them get down the track is a long list of sponsors: Lucas Oil, AAP - Al Anabi Performance, Line2Line Coatings, Mike Janis Super Chargers, JAN-CEN Racing Engines , Ferrea Valves, T&D Rockers, Motorsports Unlimited, Total Seal Rings, Mahle–Clevite, Hogans Racing Manifolds, Stinger Racing Fuels, Dart Engines, Callies Engines, Diamond Pistons, Trend Performance, Sunoco Race Fuels, MSD Ignition, Elite Performance
Janis Sr. fills his trophy room with quite a few accolades from along the way with awards such as 2x Pro Mod World Champion, he’s the 2nd top winning-est driver in Pro Mod history, he was the 2013 US Nationals Pro Mod Champion and continues their Top 10 Finishes, 15 yrs. in a row now.
Janis plans to compete in the full 12-race NHRA series in 2018. Team Janice also keeps an eye on a few other series that their customers run such as PDRA, Northeast Pro Mod, Tractor Pulling, etc. Janis recalls their own top speed ¼ mile pass however, at 5.70 @ 252 MPH.
Of all the time spent at the track, Janis recalls his favorite personal memory, “winning 2015 NHRA Pro Mod at Norwalk. We had all of our family and friends there, and it was a big weekend for us. We claim it as our home track.” Ask Janis his favorite motorsports hero and he’ll call out the personality and likeness of Dale Earnhardt Jr. And for his time spent off the track, Janice enjoys spending time with his family.
Mike Janis has built a formidable career over the years and he says that he is excited for E3 sponsorship of the series. “Everyone out here is very thankful and appreciative,” he says.
Just like Mike Janis, E3 appreciates the support from the racers/teams/participants competing in the E3 Spark Plug Pro Mod class of the NHRA and we are excited for the 2018 season. ?Rob Fisher, E3 Director of Motorsports says, “We are very thankful for everyone in the sport and everyone in the stands!”
