E3 Spark Plugs Highlights the Players in Pro Mod: Sidnei Frigo
Nashville, TN, (May 15, 2018)…One of today’s most exciting classes in NHRA drag racing has become the Pro Mod series that is now in its first season, sponsored by E3 Spark Plugs. The 2018 E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service is the only one that allows multiple makes of cars, builders and engines to compete on a level playing field. This combination is now drawing ever increasing throngs of fans to each city that Pro Mod races at NHRA. The 2018 season is shaping up again as one packed with thrills as barely hundredths-of-a-second divides the number 1 with the 16th qualifier, from entries topping 30 cars per event.
One of the competing racers is Sidnei Frigo, from São Paulo, Brazil. Sidnei started racing in 1990. “I was 19 years old, back in Brazil,” says Frigo. “Probably like most drivers, I was racing on streets and soon was all crazy about cars and racing. Drag Racing then, was something really new and amateur there.”
Frigo began racing in front wheel drive turbo, 4 cylinder cars; “Those were the only options back in Brazil. Soon, the Drag Racing scene started to grow there. I was able to import a Funny Car from Victory chassis.” Frigo claims he then moved to Top Alcohol from Murfy McKinney, then an AFuel also from McKinney in 2009. Frigo says he started his US career in 2011 and 2012. “I was in AFuel racing with Tom Conway. 2013 and 2014, I raced Top Fuel and then I moved to Pro Mod class with Proline Racing.” Frigo currently pilots a brand new, turbocharged, 1969 Jerry Bickel Camaro, debuted earlier this year.
Frigo fills his trophy room with quite a few accolades with many Brazilian Drag Racing Championships over the years. In his North American version, Frigo says, “I also have 2 wallies from AFuel Racing and probably the most prestigious, the US National 2017 win, in Pro Mod class.” He claims his top Pro Modified speed in the ¼ to be 5.68 @ 261 MPH, and a 3.79 @ 202 MPH 1/8 mile hit.
In the 2018 season, Frigo plans to compete in the full 12-race, NHRA Pro Mod Series. Frigo states, “I’d like to bring my 2 sons, daughter and my wife for a race this year.” He may have to work outside of NHRA however, for the dates to work. “I might try to race one (1) or two (2) PDRA or SCSN events so they can visit too,” says the family-man driver.
Of all the time spent at the track, Frigo recalls his favorite personal memory, “US Nationals Pro Mod Champion at Indy last year (2017).” Ask his favorite motorsports hero and Frigo answers adamantly, Ayrton Senna. He says his career and personality justify why. When he’s not at the track, Frigo claims to focus on his business. “Lot’s of work,” says Frigo.
Just like Sidnei Frigo, E3 appreciates the support from the racers/teams/participants competing in the E3 Spark Plug Pro Mod class of the NHRA and we are excited for the 2018 season. ?Rob Fisher, E3 Director of Motorsports says, “We are very thankful for everyone in the sport and everyone in the stands!”
