Frigo Claims E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod Win at Virginia Nationals

E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod Drag Racing Series returned to Virginia Motorsports Park for the second year in a row. In the doorslammer class, Sidnei Frigo claimed his first Wally of the season by winning the second annual Virginia NHRA Nationals. For Frigo, the win marked the third career Pro Mod victory in the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Series presented by J&A Services. The native of Sao Paulo Brazil ran a 5.796-second ET at 256.55 mph in the Artivincio Chevrolet Camaro to pick up a holeshot win over Stevie “Fast” Jackson’s pass of 5.768 at 251.16 mph. 

Frigo got the weekend rolling by qualifying second before earning round wins over Chip King, Alex Laughlin and Eric Latino on his way to the final shootout with Jackson. When the smoked cleared on Sunday, the native of São  Paulo, Brazil, had collected his third NHRA Pro Mod Wally by defeating Stevie "Fast" Jackson in the Finals. Frigo won his first Pro Mod division NHRA National at the 2017 Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis and followed by a win at the Strip for the 2018 Las Vegas Nationals. Having started racing in Brazil, Frigo earned several Brazilian Drag Racing Championships before coming to America.

The Virginia NHRA Nationals was the fifth of twelve NHRA Pro Mod races during the 2019 season. Featuring the fastest and most exotic doorslammer racecars in the world, E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service offers something for every kind of drag racing fan. With more than 3,000 horsepower, the "suspended door" Pro Mod cars travel the quarter-mile in less than six seconds at speeds exceeding 250 mph. The class is highlighted by historic muscle cars, like ’67 Mustangs, ’68 Firebirds and ’69 Camaros, as well as a variety of late model American muscle cars.

The E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service continues June 7-9 with the Menards NHRA Heartland Nationals presented by Minties at Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, Kan.
