Lamborghini to Enter the Volume Game
As long as anyone can remember, Lamborghini's business model has been based on extremely high quality, branding, a high price tag, and a generous dash of hype. That appears to no longer be the case as the company recently announced doubling-down on the production of their Urus SUV. The luxury SUV, priced at around $200,000, will have 7,000 units produced within the next year, making up for more than half of all Lamborghinis made.
The United States is deemed to be the main target market for the Lamborghini SUV as there is still a high demand for premium SUV's throughout the nation. China comes in at a close second as their economy continues to prosper. The original Urus, debuting at the Beijing Motor Show in 2012, was expected to be powered by the VW 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. However, final power plants for this latest iteration have not yet been confirmed. It is expected that they'll source many of the parts from Bentley and Audi to bring this incredible machine to market in 2018.
When it becomes available, however, the Lamborghini SUV will not be the most expensive on the road. Rolls-Royce is expected to bring its Cullinan concept to the streets by 2019 and is expected to be priced well above the Urus.
Those thinking of going the electric route are still eyeing the Tesla X, coming in above $100,000, which seems like a drop in the bucket compared to the aforementioned luxury SUVs. Also available are new renditions of the Porsche Cayenne, and Audi Q7, each of which can easily come in over the $100,000 mark depending on which options are chosen. The continued record-low gas prices seem to be driving the demand for these impressive vehicles, then again, if you can afford one chances are you aren't concerned about the price of gas. Power, luxury, and bragging rights are all available to consumers in the coming years, despite the quarter of a million dollar price tag.
