It was a double win for the Elite Motorsports Pro Stock racing team on Sunday, as Jeg Coughlin Jr. defeated Fernando Cuadra in the final round of the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona CA. Although Coughlin Jr. started the day three rounds back of points leader and teammate Erica Enders for the 2019 Pro Stock crown in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Series, Enders got the job done to claim her third world championship. It was the second national win of the year for Coughlin Jr., who won earlier this season at the Magic Dry Organic Absorbent NHRA Arizona Nationals in Chandler AZ. Sunday's victory at Pomona marked the 63rd Pro Stock event title of his stellar drag racing career.
Coughlin entered the 2019 NHRA Countdown to the Championship in eighth place overall. During the NHRA's championship shootout, he moved up six spots to complete a 1-2 finish in the points for Elite Motorsports Pro Stock team. This year's represented the second-straight, second-place finish for Coughlin Jr. after finishing second to 2018 NHRA Mellow Yello Pro Stock champion Tanner Gray. Coughlin Jr. earned a basket full of bonus points qualifying Number One for the final race of the campaign. The driver of the Jegs.com Chevrolet Camaro eliminated Joey Grose, Aaron Stanfield and Bo Butner for a final round showdown with Fernando Cuadra Sr.
Coughlin Jr. defeated Cuadra in the final Pro Stock race of the Auto Club NHRA nationals at Pomona's Auto Club Raceway. The Ohio native posted a 6.558 ET at 210.54 mph to claim the Wally. NHRA has announced the 18-race Pro Stock schedule for 2020, which represents the 50th anniversary of the fan-popular class. Pro Stock race teams will compete at eighteen of the twenty-four NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing series events. Top Fuel and Funny Car (the NHRA Nitro Classes) will participate at all 24 NHRA national events. Click here to view the 2020 Pro Stock National Event Schedule video.
