John Force Racing Tops the Field for NHRA SpringNationals Image

With sixteen Funny Car season titles to his name, John Force is still setting records at 69 years of age. This past weekend the patriarch of JFR (John Force Racing) posted a 3.888 second ET at 319.29 mph to claim top qualifier in his class at the 32nd annual Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals presented by Pennzoil. Not to be outdone, daughter Brittany Force, the black sheep in a family filled with Funny Car drivers, set a new track record at Houston Raceway with a 3.661 ET at 332.18 mph run in Top Fuel. It was the first time in the history of the sport that a father and daughter both qualified number one for the Nitro events. The father and daughter's hopes of standing on the podium together were nixed, when his son-in-law Robert Hight, defeated his boss in the semifinal round of...

Formula 1 Celebrates 1000th World Championship Race... Sorta?

Formula 1 Celebrates 1000th World Championship Race... Sorta? Image

Over the weekend, Lewis Hamilton, the defending F1 World Champion, jumped ahead of teammate Valterri Bottas at the start of the Chinese Grand Prix and never relinquished his lead to win the 1000th Formula 1 Grand Prix... well sorta. You see not every fan of the world's most elite racing series agree that the Shanghai race was actually Grand Prix number one thousand. Although most agree the first World Championship race was held in the United Kingdom in 1950 at Silverstone, the sanctioning body actually held a non-points formula race at Pau a month earlier for the single-seater racecars that were purpose-built to compete on dedicated road courses as well as make-shift tracks along city streets. One thing we do know for certain, Formula 1 has been filled with controversy, turbulence,...

Salinas, Todd, and Butner Win Four-Wide Nationals at the Strip Image

Northern California native Mike Salinas picked up his first career NHRA win in Top Fuel dragster at Las Vegas Motor Speedway when the Strip hosted the 20th annual DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals. Having built his California-based scrap metal and garbage hauling business from scratch, Salinas has applied the same winning philosophy of surrounding himself with lots of talent. For the 2019 Mello Yello Drag Racing season, the 57-year old hired former Brittany Force crew chief Brian Husen to join his long-time tuning advisor Alan Johnson at Scrappers Racing. As an added bonus, Husen was able to bring several John Force Racing teammates with him, as JFR announced their intention to move in a new direction. Reigning Funny Car world champion J.R. Todd drove the DHL Toyota Camry to...

The notable pair worked together at John Force Racing for the Top Fuel team of Brittany Force, where they helped the JFR driver win the 2017 NHRA Top Fuel World Championship. Where Have All the Pro Stocks Gone?

Where Have All the Pro Stocks Gone? Image

Needless to say, NHRA officials were expecting fallout from Pro Stock drivers and teams when the sanctioning body announced plans last fall to cut the 2019 schedule for the class to eighteen races. Almost immediately Tanner Gray, one of the NHRA's most promising young stars and winner of the NHRA Pro Stock World Championship in 2018 announced his plans to move full-time to NASCAR's K&N East Series as well as to race part-time in ARCA Menards Series. The 19-year old is currently the youngest national event winner and NHRA season champion in the history of the sport. Gray is set to drive for David Gilliland's American stock car race team DGR-Crosley, which also competes in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series. Similar to the move that has revitalized the modified division (Pro...

Sellout Crowds Watched the NHRA's Best Claim Gold Wallys at the 50th Gatornationals Image

At the 50th annual Amalie Motor Oil Gatornationals, sellout crowds lined the newly paved track at Gainesville Raceway on Sunday for a glimpse of the world's fastest cars and drivers. For the most part, the Florida weather cooperated and the combination of the cooler temperatures and a new racing surface ensured record-setting elapsed times. This year's event was not just the traditional season opener for E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod Racing series, but the 2019 Gatornationals was the 50th anniversary of the historic event at the NHRA-operated facility. The race was the third of twenty-four NHRA National events scheduled for the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series for the Pro Stock, Top Fuel and Funny Car divisions. 2017 World Champion Bo Butner coasted his Jim Butner's Auto Chevrolet Camaro to an...

Busch Overcomes Pit Road Violation to Claim His 200th Career NASCAR Win

Busch Overcomes Pit Road Violation to Claim His 200th Career NASCAR Win Image

Kyle Busch, the driver of the number 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, notched his 200th career victory in NASCAR's upper racing divisions. The win at the Auto Club Speedway in Sunday's Monster Energy Cup Series race in southern California allowed the Las Vegas native to equal the national series total of Richard Petty, who won 200 events in NASCAR's premier series. It was a somewhat fitting win for Busch who scored his first-ever Cup Series victory as a rookie at the track in 2005. Although he still trails ten other drivers for the most Cup wins, Busch is the winningest driver in both Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck Series. Busch has always said his goals were simple when he started his NASCAR career. His first goal was to qualify for a NASCAR event, then to finish a race and try to...

Records Set in Pro Mod at the 50th Annual NHRA Gatornationals Image

If you are going to win your first race in the E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod Drag Racing series presented by Hoosier Tire, then there's no better place than at the 50th annual Amalie Motor Oil Gatornationals. That's what North Carolina native Todd Tutterow did to take home a special edition "Gold" Wally trophy for his first ever NHRA win in Pro Mod. But, Tutterow's holeshot win was only part of the record-breaking Sunday afternoon at Gainesville Raceway. In the same final event that Tutterow won, Fast Stevie Jackson set an E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod national speed record with a quicker 5.643 ET at 253 mph, but didn't get the win. The incoming Pro Mod record holder, Mike Castellana, had a scary moment during qualifying on Saturday, when his AAP Camaro came off the tree sideways and crashed....

Kyle Busch Sweeps Phoenix; One Away from 200 Wins

Kyle Busch Sweeps Phoenix; One Away from 200 Wins Image

"It is not for me to decide" has been Kyle Busch's comment when asked about reaching 200 combined wins in NASCAR's upper division racing series. Having won two out of three races last weekend at Las Vegas coupled with a two-race sweep this weekend at Phoenix, much of the conversation in the pits surrounds he and Richard Petty. After all, King Richard is the only driver in history to reach the magical 200-win mark in NASCAR Cup Series. Nonetheless, it is a different playing field for today's drivers. With the added opportunities for wins in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR XFINITY Series, most experts suggest comparing Busch's wins to King Richard's is like comparing apples to oranges. A look back at Petty's greatness also demonstrates how much things have changed...
