Chase Elliott Wins 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Championship

Chase Elliott Wins 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Image

It may not have been the most exciting race of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series, but it was a nail-bitter from the drop of the green flag. In fact, before the flag fell, Chase Elliott got his first piece of bad news. His Rick Hendrick-prepared Chevrolet failed two pre-race inspections, which sent the 24-year old son of Hall of Fame driver, Bill Elliott, to the rear of the 39-car field for the final race of season at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday. But, crew chief Alan Gustafson, who was also looking for his first NASCAR Cup Championship, settled his young driver and the team went to work. By the end of Stage 1, Elliott had worked his way to third place. Then, the kid from Dawsonville, GA, moved up to second by the end of Stage 2. He methodically moved the NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet to the lead...

Erica Enders and Angie Smith Cap 2020 Season with a Wally

Erica Enders and Angie Smith Cap 2020 Season with a Wally Image

While winning a NHRA Camping World event is a perfect way to cap off any season, Erica Enders came to the Dodge NHRA Finals at The Strip in Las Vegas looking to clinch a fourth Pro Stock world championship. On the other hand, Angie Smith came to Las Vegas Motor Speedway trying to win her way to the final elimination round with hopes of claiming a Wally against her husband, Matt Smith, who was trying to clinch his fourth NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series world championship in Pro Stock Motorcycle. Driving the Melling Performance/Elite Performance Camaro, Enders won the Pro Stock championship after her first-round win at the 20th annual Dodge NHRA Finals at The Strip. Conversely, as a member of the DENSO 200-mph Club, no one in Pro Stock Motorcycle takes Angie Smith for granted, and...

Antron Brown Wins Top Fuel at Dodge NHRA Finals

Antron Brown Wins Top Fuel at Dodge NHRA Finals Image

After Saturday’s qualifying rounds for the Dodge NHRA Finals, it looked as though Sunday’s final could easily be an East-Texas shootout in the middle of the Nevada desert. Billy Torrence, the elder and often faster of the CAPCO Contractors Racing Team, had claimed the Number One qualifier position after posting a 3.728 ET at 325.3 mph. His son Steve had to settle for second spot with a faster speed of 330.39 mph and a slower 3.731 elapsed time. Billy Torrence eliminated Cameron Ferré in Round One with 3.796 ET at 324.67 mph to earn a bye that moved him directly into the semi-finals. Don Schumacher Racing saw Antron Brown advance to the quarter-final after defeating Tony Schumacher, his teammate who won his 85th Top Fuel Wally at the most recent event at Baytown, TX....

Jackson Wins Second Straight E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod Title

Jackson Wins Second Straight E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod Title Image

Stevie “Fast” Jackson claimed consecutive E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod world championships after defeating points leader Brandon Snider in a heads-up quarter-final round at the Dodge NHRA Finals hosted by The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday. However, the road to victory for the title in 2020 did not resemble his previous year’s championship at all. In 2019, Jackson arrived at the final round at The Strip with the E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod World Championship locked up. But, just like everything else in 2020, it was a much more challenging year, and nobody seemed to know what was going to happen from one week until the next. In the previous round at the 33rd annual Mopar Express Lane SpringNationals in Houston, Jackson qualified third but was eliminated in the...

The Dodge NHRA Finals presented by Pennzoil at “The Strip” at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Oct. 30-Nov. 1 is the first fan-attended event in professional sports in Nevada since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March. The popular LVMS track is issuing a limited number of tickets to be available for drag racing fans to celebrate the crowning of champions for the 2020 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series as well as the 2020 E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Racing Series. The Strip received a special exemption issued by Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak for a partial lifting of the suspensions established for mass gatherings that were enacted at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Schumachers Win Penultimate NHRA Nationals at Baytown

The Schumachers Win Penultimate NHRA Nationals at Baytown Image

It may have seemed strange to newcomers that the 33rd Annual Mopar Express Lane SpringNationals were being run in October, but due to the coronavirus lockdown, the 2020 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series schedule has been nothing but strange. Nonetheless, the inaugural event at Houston Raceway Park located in Baytown was also held in October 1988. Moreover, during the track’s 32-year history as a major multi-purpose motorsports venue, the facility hosted both a spring and a fall national event from 1997 to 2000. So, the biggest difference for many devoted drag racing fans was the limited number of spectators allowed at this year’s event. Typically, Baytown would have added grandstands for a seating capacity of more than 30,000 screaming race fans. Schumacher Makes...

This weekend at the 33rd Annual Mopar Express Lane SpringNationals at Houston Raceway Park, Justin Bond won for the first time in his career by eliminating Brandon Pesz who raced his way to his first-ever Pro Mod final round.
