2014 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame to Induct Next Class Friday

Famed motorcycle designer Willie G. Davidson will be honored as the 2014 AMA Hall of Fame Legend this Friday.

This Friday, seven inductees will officially join the ranks of motorcycling‘s greatest advocates and champions when they’re honored by the American Motorcyclist Association at the Orlando Convention Center. Hollywood actor and longtime motorcyclist Perry King will serve as the master of ceremonies for the event, part of the annual AMA National Convention.

This year’s honorees are:

  • Motocross pioneer Pierre Karsmakers
  • Racer and motorcycling advocate Tom White
  • Museum and racetrack founder George Barber
  • Off-road racing champion Scott Summers
  • National motocross champion Mike LaRocco
  • Tuner and race team manager Rob Muzzy
  • Engine builder and entrepreneur Byron Hines

But the top honor of the evening goes to existing Hall of Famer Willie G. Davidson, chosen as the 2014 Hall of Fame Legend. Son of former Harley-Davidson president William H. Davidson and grandson of Harley-Davidson co-founder William A. Davidson, Willie grew up to become a revered motorcycle designer in his own right. During his work in the family business, he approved many Harley-Davidson motorcycle designs and personally designed several himself, including the Super Glide and the Low Rider, which pioneered the factory custom motorcycle and created an intermediate line of motorcycles between the company’s large touring models and its smaller Sportster.

After nearly 50 years serving in Harley-Davidson’s design and styling departments, Davidson retired in 2012, but remains involved with the company as its brand ambassador and Chief Styling Officer Emeritus of its Special Design Projects.
