Chicago Auto Show Revs Up This Weekend

The Limited Edition 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 dubbed “The Reaper” will be on display at the Chicago Auto Show.

Looking for something to do this weekend, E3 Spark Plugs fans? Our friends in the Windy City get a real automotive treat when the annual Chicago Auto Show gets underway tomorrow morning. First staged in 1901, it’s reportedly the largest auto show in North America and has been held more times than any other auto exposition on the continent. The 106th installment runs through Feb. 17 and offers up nearly 1,000 cars, trucks, SUVs and experimental or concept cars plus competition vehicles and project, antique and collector cars filling more than 1 million square feet of exhibit space.

A few special event days: Tuesday is Women’s Day. The ladies get a discount on entry and manufacturers will regale you with all varieties of women-oriented automotive programs on the purchase, lease and maintenance of cars. Bring three cans of food on Wednesday and you’ll get an entry fee discount and the satisfaction of knowing you helped a family in need. All those cans will be donated to A Safe Haven Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps those in need as they transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

Among the most unique vehicles on display at this year’s Chicago Auto Show is the Reaper, a specialty performance pickup truck designed by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering and Southern Comfort Automotive. It’s a limited edition 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500. This supercharged. High-end off-roader features a three-inch lift with long travel off-road suspension, Fox Racing performance remote reservoir shocks, 20-inch Reaper wheels mounted on General Grabber light truck tires and a Lingenfelter Performance exhaust system along with a custom hood fitment and grill assembly, high-clearance bumper, wide-body fender flares and a wheel-to-wheel rock guard with removable side steps. It’s available in red, white, gray or black via select Chevrolet dealers.

And if you missed it at the recent North American Auto Show in Detroit, you’ll get a second chance to see a trio of Lexus racing performance vehicles including the 2015 RC F, a low-slung, athletic coupe that can pump out more than 450 horsepower and has the most aggressive use yet of the brand’s iconic spindle grille.
