High Tech Cars Drive the Show at CES

For years, the International Consumer Electronics Show, known informally as CES, has showcased the latest and greatest in electronic gadgetry, from toys to televisions. But this year, a major highlight driving crowds is technology on wheels. In fact, the 2016 show, running Jan. 6-9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, features no less than a dozen concept and new production cars outfitted with futuristic, state-of-the-art tech attributes. In fact. A full 10 percent of the venue's 2.2 million square feet of display space this year is dedicated to all things automotive.

Tech features that automakers are showing off at CES support the future of autonomous/automated driving, including parking assist, collision avoidance, emergency braking and much more. Among those expected to make a showing:

  • The 2016 Ford GT's twin-turbocharged, intercooled EcoBoost® 3.5-liter V6 projected to produce more than 600 horsepower;
  • Hyundai's fuel cell-powered Tucson;
  • Mercedes' Concept Intelligence Aerodynamic Automobile;
  • Toyota's new map-generating system for autonomous cars;
  • Volkswagen's long-awaited electric microbus;
    An Audi A8 concept version with autonomous driving capability.
