When we spoke with Danny Rowe about the upcoming E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, the 20-year veteran was excited about his 2018 campaign behind the wheel of a supercharged door car. In addition to the 12-race NHRA Pro Mod series of high powered turbo, nitrous and supercharged late model American muscle cars, Rowe already had his sights set on the second annual World Series of Pro Mod hosted by Bandimere Speedway outside Denver CO. Known to NHRA drag racing fans as Thunder Mountain, Bandimere Speedway also hosts the NHRA's Mopar Mile-High Nationals.
Driving the Jim Bell-owned Pro Mod 69' Camaro, Carl Stevens Jr. also had the $100,000 payday on his calendar and wasted no time in settling the matter in the final round of the DRAG ILLUSTRATED World Series of Pro Mod presented by One Cure and J&A Service. Stevens posted the quickest run in history of the event with a 5.856 ET at 246.26 mph. En route to the six-figure payout, Stevens eliminated some of the top names in the sport, including Pro Stock driver Erica Enders, defending event winner Mike Bowman. Danny Rowe, who had a slight advantage off the line, managed a 5.949 at 242.54 mph pass in the final. Rowe had displaced Shane Molinari, Steven Whiteley and Stevie Jackson in the elimination rounds.
E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod driver Stevie "Fast" Jackson was the winner of the Drag 965/Nitrous Outlet burnout contest on Friday night. DRAG ILLUSTRATED World Series of Pro Mod sponsored the popular rubber burning contest at the mile high speedway. Behind the wheel of his Bahrain 1 Racing Camaro, Jackson blasted a burnout down the track to nearly the 1,000-foot mark before his chutes deployed, prompting the Denver race fans to issue an uproar of approval. Todd Tutterow finished the contest with his own impressive burnout and his chutes ejected, too. Judged on style, smoke and distance as well as fan reaction, the ultimate prize of $5,000 went to Jackson.
With a couple of summer months off, the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Series will return to action August 29 through September 3 at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis IN.
