Italy’s MV Agusta Turismo Veloce 800 is among the new bikes hitting the market in 2014.
If the call of the open road is ringing in your ears as you ring in the New Year, you’re in luck. There’s a whole slew of hot new motorcycles to rev up your 2014. Here are five of our favorites here at E3 Spark Plugs, in no particular order:
- Harley-Davidson Street 750 and 500: Harley-Davidson’s first all-new model in 13 years is powered by an also all-new power system dubbed “Revolution X,” featuring a liquid-cooled 60-degree V-twin with chain-driven single overhead camshafts that operate four valves per cylinder. It’s credited with keeping the seat high, but the center of gravity low. These bikes are expected to be a hit with the young urban market.
- BMW 1200RT: Hey, short guys – this one’s for you. The new BMW 1200RT is designed to bring the rider triangle formed by the seat, footpegs and handlebars nearly an inch closer to the ground. The boxy mainframe is stronger and the air- and liquid-cooled 1170cc boxer sports a heavier crankshaft and alternator which smoothes the powertrain and reduces stalls. Headed for the hills in 2014? Opt for the Hill Start Control feature, which keeps your ride from rolling backward while starting on an uphill slope.
- Honda Valkyrie: Honda’s newest bike features an 1832cc liquid-cooled horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine in an all-new aluminum twin-spar frame that sets its rider just 28.8 inches off the pavement and weighs in at a full 150 pounds less than the Gold Wing. The LED headlight, taillight and turn signals, along with LCD instruments lend an uber-modern look. Choose between a short or tall windscreen come the Valkyrie’s US debut planned for April.
- Ducati Superleggera: This super lightweight Italian ride (thanks to liberal use of magnesium) sports a 1198cc V-twin that’s rumored to put out more than 200 horsepower, plus a low-mass crankshaft and titanium intake valves, exhaust and coil spring. With only 500 planned, this one is essentially custom-built and will set you back a pricey $65,000 or more.
- MV Agusta Turismo Veloce 800: This gorgeous new ride boasts and all-new design and a 798cc triple controlled by the latest and greatest of MVICS electronics. It offers riders eight levels of traction control and three riding modes and sports a TFT dash for sharper display.
