Early into the 2017 North American International Auto Show, spectators were treated to a huge reveal from Ford. For the first time, and to the anticipation of their fans, the company confirmed that both the Ford Bronco and the Ford Ranger will be returning to showrooms within the next few years.
The Ranger has been a favorite among small truck enthusiasts for years and is slated to debut in 2019. The Bronco, on the other hand, has a die-hard fan base which were enthralled to hear of the truck’s return in 2020. Though designs for neither vehicle were shown during the announcement, Ford’s Joe Hinrichs had a lot to say about the Bronco. Hinrichs described the upcoming Bronco as "a no-compromise midsize 4x4 utility for the thrill-seekers who want freedom and off-road functionality, with the space and versatility of an SUV. It's capable of conquering everything from your daily commute to gravel roads and boulders.” The Bronco will be produced at Ford’s Michigan Assembly plant in Wayne, MI.
As for the Ford Ranger, many details have yet to be released. However, insiders say it may be designed on the highly popular Ford Raptor, a special version of the F150. The two throwback vehicles are part of a 5 truck series coming to the line within the next 5 years. In October of 2016, a United Auto Workers representative revealed that Ford's union contract included Ranger and Bronco plans. The Detroit Auto Show is the first time Ford has officially confirmed that these iconic trucks will return, announcing when and where they would be produced.
