FuelTech Pro Mod at NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals

Bristol drag racing fans had a double treat over the weekend with both the FuelTech Pro Mod for the New England Nationals and the Thunder Valley Nationals both contested at the famed Bristol dragway. The legendary course is known for its thunderous noise as Pro Mod cars race through the mountains flanking the Tennessee dragstrip.

Featuring the world's fastest and most unique doorslammer race cars, the Pro Mod pits are the hot spot for any hot-rodding enthusiast. It’s where you can see a variety of historic muscle cars like the '67 Mustangs, '68 Firebirds, and '69 Camaros, as well as a variety of late-model American muscle cars, all pushing over 3,000 horsepower.

FuelTech has been an essential partner for Pro Mod competitors on the NHRA national circuit and has made a name for themselves with their PowerFT line of engine management systems, which have powered numerous national wins and NHRA world championships. Among the champions, defending Pro Mod world champion, Jose Gonzalez.

Kris Thorne Wins NHRA Pro Mod at Bristol

Kris Thorne, the defending world champion in the FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, won his first Wally of the 2023 season at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals this past weekend. Thorne was tough to beat with speeds of 245.32 mph in his Bahrain 1 Racing Camaro and taking down Eric Dillard, points leader Justin Bond, and Dmitry Samorukov to get to the final round.

The driver of Bahrain 1 Camaro went head-to-head with Mike Castellana in the FuelTech Finals and emerged triumphant as Castellana went red at the tree. However, Thorne would have been tough to beat regardless Castellana’s misstep, posting a 5.816-seconds elapsed time at 245.32 mph for the win. Although Justin Bond still holds the lead in points, Thorne closed to within 88 points.
