Gonzalez Wins DeWalt NHRA Nationals in Pro Mod

Points leader Jose Gonzalez continued to roll in the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service. The Dominican businessman drove past Mike Castellana in the final round of the DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Charlotte. It was a thrilling Pro Mod final, as Gonzalez and Castellana left the Pro Tree with identical .011-second reaction times. Nonetheless, the ProCharger powered Q80 Camaro laid down a 5.792 ET at 248.29 mph for a clear advantage at the finish line.

With four wins in five races and his fifth victory of the year, Gonzalez beat Mike Salinas, Brandon Snider, and Indy winner Jeffrey Baker to earn his spot in the final round at Charlotte. Castellana beat Chad Green, Jerico Balduf and Doug Winters to make the final for the first time this season and the 23rd time in his career. Gonzalez moved another Countdown round closer to clinching his first world championship in the Pro Mod division. The race weekend at zMAX Dragway was the eighth of eleven events in 2021 E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service.
