Pro Stock veteran Greg Anderson made history on Sunday at Texas Motorplex, picking up his 98th career win to become the all-time class wins leader in NHRA history at the 36th annual Texas NHRA FallNationals. Driving the HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro, Anderson earned his sixth victory at Texas Motorplex with a 6.624 ET at 206.32 mph to cap off another brilliant weekend of racing.
Recently inducted into the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame, Anderson carved his way into Pro Stock History as the winningest driver in NHRA history. In a post-race interview, Anderson admitted that he had doubts leaving the leaving the tree and struggled from the moment that he glanced at the scoreboard. Something the four-time world champion said that he never does. Fortunately, Anderson saw nothing but red in the opposite lane.
Chris McGaha reached the final round for the first time this season with wins over his son Mason, rookie sensation Dallas Glenn, and Aaron Stanfield. But, McGaha never had a chance in the final run as the tree went red when he left the line early making Anderson the winningest driver in Pro Stock history. Anderson also moved 81 points ahead of defending world champ Erica Enders as he aims for a fifth NHRA world championship with two races remaining in the Pro Stock season.
Matt Smith Sets Track Record at Texas Motorplex
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Matt Smith set the track speed record for Texas Motorplex on Saturday with a pass of 200.83 mph. Nonetheless, the defending world champ only qualified second with a 6.772 ET to Steve Johnson. Johnson’s run from Friday of 6.756 aboard his Brady Mechanical Services Suzuki earned him his third Number One qualifier of the 2021 season.
Matt Smith moved into the points lead after a dominating weekend in Pro Stock Motorcycle. The veteran beat Hector Arana Jr. in the final round after Arana left too soon on the starting line. Smith then put together a run of 6.839 ET at 199.08 mph on his Denso Auto Parts/Stockseth/Matt Smith Racing EBR. It gave Smith his first career victory at Texas Motorplex, along with his fifth victory of the season and 31st in his career.
