The E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod Drag Racing Series returned to the track over the weekend for the Seventh Annual AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park. Coming off his most recent win at the U.S. Nationals, Stevie "Fast" Jackson made it back-to-back victories in the doorslammer class. Jackson could have coasted to a win after Chad Green's Chevy Corvette fouled at the start, but Jackson ignored the red light and posted a 5.759 ET at 250.88 mph run in his '17 Bahrain 1 Racing Chevrolet Camaro.
Jackson defeated Rickie Smith in Round One with a 251.86 mph pass, then added a 250.92 mph win over Jim Whiteley. In the Semifinals, Jackson eliminated points leader Mike Janis while Chad Green got a free ticket to the Finals when Mike Castellana had a red light foul. Green's Corvette claimed a holeshot win in the quarterfinals over Danny Rowe's fast (252.90 mph) Chevy Camaro. Jackson moved to third place in the championship and had great praise for all the hard work that his crew has put into the 2018 Pro Mod season.
The Gateway Pro Mod race was the ninth of twelve events in the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series. Pro Mod drivers and teams have a weekend off before returning to action at the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals Oct. 4-7 at Texas Motorplex outside Ennis, TX.
