Jason Lee Wins Pro Mod at Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals

Pro Mod teams headed to Minnesota over the weekend to take part in the FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by Type A Motorsports. Drivers were anxious over the opportunity to get back on track at Brainerd International Raceway as part of the weekend for the 41st annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals.

With the FuelTech series back in action for the first time in nearly two months, everyone showed at Brainerd ready for the first race in the NHRA new category of Road to the Championship at the popular mid-west raceway. As the first of four playoff races for the Pro Mod division, Justin Bond had three wins during the regular season and enters as the points leader.

Bristol Pro Mod winner Kris Thorne enters the weekend 20 points behind Bond and the 2021 Pro Mod world champion Jose Gonzalez twenty-five points down. Last year, Rickie Smith broke the ice for his first victory of the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series at Brainerd International Raceway as part of the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals.

Lee Claims Wally in First-Ever Pro Mod Final

Powered by Stinar the seventh round of the 2023 season for the FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series also served as the first race in the NHRA Road to the Championship. Jason Scruggs advanced to the final round for the second race in a row by eliminating Mason Wright, points leader Justin Bond, and defending FuelTech Pro Mod world champion Kris Thorne.

Lee, who qualified 10th, knocked off J.R. Gray, Dmitry Samorukov and Stan Shelton to reach the finals for the first time in his career. As both teams were eager for the first-ever Road to the Championship final round, Scruggs rolled through the water but after problems with his burnout the team pulled the plug. So, after one race in the Road to the Championship, Jason Lee leads by 28 points over Bond and 29 points over Thorne.
