It’s the first major car show of each season and one of the top annual events for car buffs nationwide and around the world. And with good reason – This year, 56 automobiles will make their U.S. debuts, including 22 making their world debuts at the LA Auto Show in Los Angeles. That’s more than double the number of world premieres at the show over last year.
Among the sleek new rides that the world will see for the first time at the LA auto show are four Mercedes-Benzes, three Porches and more from BMW, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota in the luxury, performance, green, tech and concept categories. Here are a few of our favorites:
- BMW i8: The German automaker’s flagship i8 electric vehicle is a hybrid that reportedly can blast from zero to 60 in a mere 4.4 seconds while generating up to 365 horsepower on 420 lb-ft of torque. It peaks a 94 mpg, respectable for an electric vehicle, and you won’t have to wait long between drives. Its battery hits full capacity in just 1.5 hours of plug time. But you might have to wait a payday or two to save up. The BMW i8 starts at a decidedly pricey $135,700.
- Cadillac Elmiraj: Jaws will drop at this one – a mammoth luxury Caddy boasting over 17 feet of classic Cadillac Eldorado-inspired coupe. But this concept is just as much a performance car as it is a luxury ride. It runs on a 4.5-liter twin-turbo V8 capable of generating 500 horsepower on 500 lb-ft of torque. Just a concept for now, we’d love to see this one make it into production in the not-too-distant future.
- Porsche Macan: “Five doors. No box. The Macan concept.” That’s how Porsche is touting its new crossover SUV that the carmaker promises “will not be like anything the world has seen.” The all-wheel-drive five-seater has a dynamic front with characteristic headlights, a sharply contoured side profile and a sporty sloping roofline that designers call the “Porsche flyline.”
LA Auto Show press days are Nov. 19-21. The show opens to the public Nov. 22 and runs through the 29th. Will you attend? Be sure to post your pics and thoughts on the E3 Spark Plugs Facebook Fan Page.
