Three of the Coolest Concepts Seen at the LA Auto Show

The Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo Concept debuted at the 2014 LA Auto Show.

The Los Angeles Auto Show always serves up a heaping helping of spectacular sights. But it’s the concept cars that really turn heads. Here are our top picks for the coolest concepts unveiled this week:

  • Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo: Created in honor of the 15th anniversary of the Gran Turismo racing video game franchise, this is one of the wildest concepts ever to sport the Chevy bowtie. The best news: This is one concept you can drive. Well, sort of. Though you’ll never park one of these in your drive way, you can rev it up in the upcoming Gran Turismo 6 via an online update. Call the 2X Vision in the game, this ride will boast a laser-based propulsion system and an air-powered generator that gives the car 900 horsepower, a top speed of 240 miles per hour and a 0-60 mph speed of 1.5 seconds.
  • Nissan Blade Glider Concept: This all-electric ride is based on the revolutionary Nissan-powered Delta Wing race cars that hit the tracks at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance sports car race. You may remember this one debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show last year. And it’s been an eventful year since. Pending the outcome of a bit of legal wrangling over its striking resemblance to Panoz’ DeltaWing racer, word on the street is that the Blade Glider may hit the production lines in the next few years.
  • Lexus LF-C2 Concept: If ever there was a reason to go topless, this is it. The Lexus LF-C2 concept may look like a convertible. Oh, but it’s not. Turns out the designers created a sleek, souped up ride that’s just too sexy for a top. As described by Lexus Group Vice President and General Manager Jeff Bracken, it’s “What happens when we take our signature look, which is critical to our identity in the luxury market, and incorporate it into a fun ‘what if’ concept.”
